    Painkiller Misuse Numbs NFL Pain

    Retired NFL players misuse opioid pain medications at a rate more than four times that of the general population, and new evidence suggests that is occurring because players misused the painkillers during their NFL careers, according to a study published online in Drug and Alcohol Dependence, a peer-reviewed, scientific journal.

    Scott proposing repeal of Florida drug trafficking law

    Gov. Rick Scott wants to repeal the state’s yet-to-be-implemented prescription drug tracking law that’s designed to crack down on “pill mills” supplying drug dealers and addicts who flock to Florida from states already operating such systems.

    Scott spokesman Brian Hughes said Tuesday that the electronic monitoring delayed by contract challenges, may not be as effective as advocates claim. The governor also was worried it might infringe on patients’ privacy, he said.

    In Plainview, while prescription drug abuse is on the radar of local law enforcement personnel, it still doesn’t compare with other forms of drug abuse, according to Plainview Police Department Investigator Ramiro Sanchez.
