A Pinellas County physician has agreed to plead guilty to federal charges that he dealt drugs on the street and defrauded Medicare.
Michael Peter Spuza, 51, of Seminole, will admit to possession of a controlled, dangerous substance with the intent to distribute and making a false claim, according to his plea agreement. The charges carry a combined maximum of 25 years in prison, but Spuza is likely to receive much less as part of his plea deal.
Spuza was convicted in 2000 of accepting kickbacks in connection with Medicare and conspiracy to defraud the federal government. He was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison.
